A Brief History of Kombucha Mushroom Tea
It is understood that Kombucha mushroom tea originated in China during the Qin dynasty around 210 BC although the first recorded history is from Russia in the 19th century. Legend has it that the Chinese extended trade routes to India and then on to Russia, the beverage became more popular in these countries. It is believed that a Korean medical practitioner named Kombu introduced the it to Japan. Around 415 BC. After world war one the Japanese began to believe that their relative good health and longevity was partly attributable to widespread use of the drink. It is believed that the Germans began drinking kombucha tea around the turn of the century and subsequently spread to Western Europe, particularly prior to World War II when sugar and tea were scarce.
